What is an Automatic Pool Cleaner?
By ProMatcher Staff
Automatic Pool Cleaners
An automatic pool cleaner is a machine that removes dirt and debris from a pool. Once it is placed in the pool, very little effort is required on the part of the human operator. An automatic cleaner helps to keep a pool clean on a daily basis, but it cannot fully replace a professional cleaning service.
Although an automatic cleaner can reduce the amount of cleanings required, there is no substitute for the precision of a (human) pool cleaner that can skim leaves off the surface of the water and scrub deposits off of pool tile.
Types of Automatic Pool Cleaners
There are three main types of automatic pool cleaners.
1. Suction Side Cleaner Cost: Very Affordable
- Most popular type of automatic cleaner - Ideal for cleaning smaller debris - Attaches to pool’s own filtration system
2. Pressure Side Cleaner Cost: Somewhat Affordable
- Ideal for removing larger pieces of debris from the pool - Helps improve pool’s water circulation - Attaches directly to pool's filter
3. Robotic Cleaner Cost: More Expensive
- Quick and convenient - Separate from pool’s filtration system - Able to store collected debris on its own
